THE RESTORATION IS COMPLETE AND THE WHEEL TURNS AGAIN

Little Norton mill is a country watermill situated at the foot of Ham Hill, to the east of Norton sub Hamdon, in Somerset, England. It is built of local limestone and contains three floors under a clay tiled roof. The loft and wheel chamber extend across the building enclosing the waterwheel but leaving it clearly visible downstream. The floors and structural timberwork within the mill are predominantly of elm. The whole is generally of late 18th Century although there was probably an earlier mill on the site. The carved date stone on the west gable carries the inscription 1782. The mill machinery is basically intact and is nicely representative of a late 18th century layout. The mill is built into the bank at the west end of a fine millpond which is supplied with water from a tributory of the River Parrett. The stone built channel along which water was directed into the pentrough has been covered with a timber platform which forms a seating and viewing area outside the HOLIDAY APARTMENTS which have been built behind the mill.
